Cystoscopy — internal diagnostic imaging
Cystoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the bladder and urethra. A thin, flexible cystoscope is introduced through the urethra, allowing the doctor to directly visualise the bladder wall. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia (anaesthetic gel).
Indications
- Blood in the urine (haematuria) — the most common indication
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Suspected bladder tumour
- Urethral stricture
- Follow-up after bladder cancer treatment
- Voiding difficulty of unclear cause
