Conisation — treatment of pre-cancerous cervical lesions
Conisation involves excision of a cone of tissue from the cervix encompassing the abnormal area. We use the LEEP method (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) — precise removal of the lesion while providing a specimen for histopathology.
Indications
- CIN 2 (HSIL) — moderate dysplasia confirmed on biopsy
- CIN 3 (HSIL) — severe dysplasia / carcinoma in situ
- Discordant results — when cytology, colposcopy and histopathology do not agree
- Endocervical lesion — suspected endocervical involvement
- AIS (adenocarcinoma in situ)
Procedure
LEEP conisation is outpatient under local anaesthesia, taking 10–15 minutes. Result with margin assessment within 7–14 days.
